The Enneagram’s Instinctual Variant

Self-preservation subtype

The self-preservation subtype is an instinctual one that is geared toward basic survival requirements. This type is concerned about money, shelter security, health, and safety. They may also be extremely concerned about food and comfort. Furthermore, this type is likely to be highly concerned about the cleanliness and comfort of a room. They are the first to spot problems in the room.

Self-preservation is the primary instinctual drive. When this drive isn’t in sync with other instinctual drives, it is often perceived as a threat to security. This can lead people to have misperceptions about one’s personality index and the need to seek counseling and therapy. The self-preservation subtype sees the mate as an essential element to maintain security, and therefore experiences anxiety if they fail to find one.

Instinctual types may exhibit different behaviors. Self-preservation may be defined by aggression, vigilance, and security. These behaviors are geared toward safeguarding self and the collective. They are also linked to group accomplishments and temperaments hierarchies.

Social instinctive types are those who are looking for the status of their peers and social connection. They are more likely to look for group membership if they’ve enjoyed a positive childhood. They are also more likely than other to be interested in giving back. They may also become annoyed with people who discuss food and home decor.

Type Eight

The Type Eight instinctual variant combines the desire for life with the desire for material security. The people who have this type of personality have a a strong desire to protect their family and friends. They are competitive and decisive with lots of energy and an enormous appetite. Their physical presence is unmistakable, and they are never unwilling to stand up for themselves. Additionally, they are pragmatic and hard-headed, with a a strong desire to be the most dominant among other people.

This instinctual form of love combines lust and sexual instinct to create a captivating personality. This makes it hard for an Eight to part with their possessions of material value. This instinct is also the reason they are more prone to political activity. While they are less aggressive than other subtypes however, they are just as likely to oppose an individual leader.

Another instinctual variation of the Type Eight is a self-pre/sexual Eight. They feel a need to “hook” an individual and are often prone to be suspicious of other people. This tendency makes it difficult to control their impulses and can lead to unhealthy relationships. Eights can be a bit possessive, jealous, or even addicted to their partners in these relationships. These behaviors can lead to spousal abuse.

A Type Eight is more expressive and compassionate than the typical two in this instinctual form. The eight is still concerned about being loved, but it is seeking love in the same way an integrated two does, by caring for others. This instinctual variant is an individual with a strong, caring personality who desires to love and convey their feelings in tangible ways.

Type Five

Type Five is the opposite type of type Four, and it is a deeply emotional. It is able to express its inner thoughts through art and to others through ideas. It seeks knowledge that is ultimate and truth, meaning and purpose. This instinctual mode of thinking could be linked to certain subtypes however, it can also be employed on its own.

The Type Eight is linked to the Passion of Lust. It is driven by the desire to live each moment to the fullest extent possible and often resorts to force to satisfy its Dominant Instinct requirements. The self-centered Eights are usually excessively concerned with autonomy. This instinctive way of thinking can make you feel lonely and alignment System resentful.

Type Twos project their needs onto others. They often seek approval and affection from others. Their desire for approval and love keeps them from building deep relationships. They are traditional providers, but they are also extremely conscious of their appearance. They are less confident and fearful than other subtypes.

The sexual one’s natural instinct is to chase a loved or a favorite. When they were children they were told they were beautiful and attractive. Their parents encouraged them to believe that they could attract a desirable partner. They believed that to attract a partner, one had to be physically and sexually active.

The self-pres/social stacking subtype resembles to the self-pres/self-pres subtype in many ways, such as the need to maintain a clean environment. They also are seeking a partner and are concerned about their sexuality. They may also have conflicting alliances with certain groups or have a strong opinion about political or social issues.

Type Six

Every type of Enneagram has an instinctual variant. Subtypes of instinctual nature are determined by the type’s emotional force, and explain why people within one type can differ. Each type is distinguished by three distinct instinctual variations. Each subtype differs from its main type in a variety of ways.

The Type Six instinctual variant is marked by intense self-reflection. This is a strong instinct that seeks out security in relationships. They seek the comfort of close relationships and are awed by tradition and family. They may be contradictory, but the subtype is characterized by faith and the ability to trust the world.

The Intimate Six often conflicts with the Self-preservation Six. They are prone to jealousy, and have both male and female traits. Intimate Sixes might seek out partners who are more sexually active than they are. They might also wish to impress their partners by being confident and strong. They could even concentrate on appearance.

The Sexual Six is perhaps the most obscure of the Six subtypes, yet it is also the most frightening. These people are afraid of being rejected and form many friendships due to their fear of rejection. They also display warmth affection, tenderness, and peace, but their real feelings are driven by the fear of losing security. As a result, the SP Six feels the need to be “good” and avoid causing offence to other people.

The Sexual Sixes often act against perceived danger. They could appear to be risk-takers, rebels or troublemakers. They could even exhibit hero complexes.

Type Seven

The Type Seven instinctual variant is characterised by intense energy and extremes in behavior as well as material success. This subtype has the self-presence instinct, which allows them to be successful, but they are also a bit dependent. They must receive immediate feedback and personality are given the chance to express their opinions. They might require some time to process the feedback they receive, and may need some help from others to achieve their goals.

The Eight instinctual variation is less sluggish than the social/self preservation subtype. This subtype, while showing traits of self-preservation and social abilities is more focused on group dynamics. They are charismatic and lively. They are often confused with a Seven and can sometimes utilize their interpersonal abilities to manipulate and con others.

The Sexual Seven is a strong comedian with a keen sense for humor. Their sexuality is not uncommon, but they don’t care about having sexual relations. Instead, they are more focused on the idealized relationship they envision with someone. While this can be a great way to have entertainment, this can be a risky way to have intimacy for those in Sevens.

Although it shares a lot of characteristics with the other types of self-pres/sexuality, it is distinct. The Seven desires to be a part of everything and is often unhappy when life becomes boring. It may even be a source of frustration when people reject them. This type is also more intense and may have dark nihilistic beliefs.

Sevens can easily become in love with their romantic partners. They can be entangled with their partners in love, but they don’t want to lose their freedom. If they’re in a toxic relationship, the Sevens tend to be very selfish, and their relationships are generally focused on their own needs.
